FILM
Michael is co-director of Feather and Pine, a documentary feature nearly a decade in the making that chronicles several years within a Northern California logging community in the wake of the Great Recession. The film premiered at the multi-disciplinary art space and non-profit organization The Museum of Human Achievement in Austin, Texas with live musical accompaniment from Boxhead Ensemble (composer Michael Krassner), and later screened in film festivals and received awards at Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, BendFilm Festival, Tulsa American Film Festival, and Mammoth Lakes Film Festival, among others.
"Feather and Pine takes on the enigmatic subject of the logging industry – enigmatic because the recession and the industry’s passing left residents in a small town at loose ends. Heartbreaking in an unusual sense, it evokes a quintessential longing for what might best be described as “an American Way of Life.”" (Diversions LA). The film’s score is released by Dark Companion Records. More on the film here and here.
Michael has also served as an image-maker for other films, documentaries and music videos in varied settings internationally.
